How have Estate Agencies been adapting to COVID restrictions?

With just about every industry impacted by the pandemic, it’s no surprise the housing market has also felt it’s tremors.

Luckily, Estate Agencies have been given permission to remain open to the public. Removers and valuers have also been permitted to continue operating. Sales and Lettings agents have been advised to inform customers and their own staff about their Covid-19 procedures, so they are safe throughout the sales and lettings processes.

One of the simplest steps you can take when moving home is to wash your hands frequently and keep as much distance as possible from other people who are not members of your household.

Where some Estate Agencies are concerned, some of the usual processes included in searching for a new home, and moving into a new home, have been modified.  Property agents, conveyancers and other professionals have been offering virtual viewings as well as in-person viewings, they have been asking vendors to vacate their property during viewings, and have been ensuring all properties are thoroughly cleaned before someone else moves in.


Here are some other safety measures that many Estate Agencies are ensuring are in place to minimise complications:

  • Adherence to social distancing rules
  • Wearing PPE
  • Viewings should be limited to 15 minutes
  • No more than two households should be present, with the agent counting as one household
  • Vendors to ventilate the house during viewings
  • No refreshments to be offered

Sales and letting agents have been advising buyers and sellers to take the possible implications of COVID-19 into consideration with their legal professional during the drawing of contracts, in order to manage any unforeseen risks and circumstances.

After house prices started falling between March and April 2020, when lockdown measures first came into place and restricted the completion of property transactions, the government and the property industry are working hard to ensure the figures increase, and that potential buyers and sellers feel comfortable and confident during all the buying and selling processes.
